We've been homeowners for 1 month :)

So after months of being under contract, we closed on our first home on August 4th. It was daunting process, of signing my life away, but we couldn't have been happier. Not to mention we got money back at closing, yippee!

So let's recap the last month:

Moved out of our apartment August 4th and 5th.

Spent our first night at our new home August 5th

I spent my first night alone in our new home August 6th (which was a night I didn't sleep, and I have never heard so many different animal sounds in my entire life. Who thought motion sensor lights were a good idea anyways- my husband never told me that bugs could set it off)

Moved into our bedroom on August 7th- Jason painted our bedroom and put up crown molding (I'll post pictures soon)

More painting--the purchase of our lawn mower (yippee) and my in-laws bought us a grill :)

September 1st- dining room table bought and paid for for WAY under what we had budgeted.

We knew what we wanted for a kitchen table, and we knew that the price tag was going to take a bit to save. 899 is a lot of money, but hey you only buy a kitchen table once right? So we saved for the last four months, waiting for the perfect time to go purchase our table, that happended to be Tuesday night. We get to Portland, go to where we planned to buy said table and whip out the debit card...I say to Jason, let's check the discounted area, you never know what may be in there...so off we go and viola there it is the table I wanted with 6 chairs for only....399.00!! Woo Hoo!! Needless to say I am pumped about this, and love the way it looks in our dining room.

So this weekend we have more painting to do, and I hope to post some more inside shots :) Happy Friday!!

Year old cake and celebrating the first year of our marriage.

So our first year anniversary was Sunday June 7th, the day was perfect weather wise a little cooler than our wedding day, but full of sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. We started our day off bright and early at the house we are under contract for. We had scheduled the Terralift for Saturday, but due to technical difficulties the procedure was not able to be done. Thankfully the home owners are fantastic folks and they rescheduled for Sunday early in the am so our anniversary plans would not be spoiled.

A little history regarding "our" house, we had inspections the second week of May and found out much to our dismay that the septic had failed. AUGH, not something that a new homeowner wants to hear, but thank goodness we found out of about this prior to buying the house. After meeting (well Jason meeting) with several soil engineers and others, we along with homeowners decided to proceed with a Terralift. The engineers determined that the septic problem was caused buy two things:

1. The water softening unit was pumping excess water in the septic which was high in sodium due to reverse osmosis.
2. The leech field had been compacted when land work was done two years ago, thus making it impossible for large amounts of water to work through the system.

So we did the terralift with the understanding that it is guaranteed for two years and if we are unsatisfied at anytime we will given 1/2 of the money which was payed for by the homeowners to fix the issue. The terralift was so amazing to watch. They bring in this machine which looks like an oil digging rig at a much smaller level, and they drill over 40 holes in the leech field along where the draining pipes are. As the get under the crushed stone they release 300 psi of air which causes the ground to literally lift (hense terralift). This took away the problem of the compacted soil, and the leech field was no longer failed. They will be checking on the system tomorrow and also in three weeks :) Which happens to be before our closing date of June 30th. Woo hoo. Our appraisal was completed this Monday, I haven't heard anything. But throughout this process my "no news is good news" mantra has seemed to keep us sane. Take all this home buying stress and add it to the fact that I have been traveling since the middle of May, and thankfully after tomorrow, I do not have a trip until the middle of July. Thank goodness.

After that amazing (ha) experience, Jason had planned a bunch of things for the day. The night before our anniversary he had my mom go into our apartment put rose petals and candy all over the floor leading to the bedroom where there was wine chilled and rose petals on the bed, he's so romantic :) We went to the sea dogs game that afternoon, which they won and it was intensely hot! And then went to a great restaurant that evening.

So let's talk CAKE! Thursday before our anniversary I took our wedding cake out of the freezer and put it in the fridge. I figured that after one year of being frozen, we would need to defrost it with ease. On Sunday night before we left for dinner we took the cake out of the fridge and let it set for the two hours we were away. When it was time to eat, I was pleasantly surprised, the cake was amazing, and the strawberries were still fresh. I guess wrapping that box in plastic wrap and foil did the trick.

So overall, our first year anniversary was perfect. I can't believe how fast this past year went by, and from what I've heard, it doesn't go by any slower....
